Winter Home School Art Sampler

Winter Home School Art Sampler
Ages: 5 yrs. to 10 yrs.
This new program will lead students through an investigation of various hands-on art activities in 2D and 3D, combined with an introduction to certain aspects of art history (including periods, styles, masters, and techniques).
Students will begin with the study of drawing, using a variety of media such as carbon and charcoal. Techniques in shading, perspective and proportion will be introduced and employed in both the sketch and finished drawing. The importance of drawing to artistic development will be demonstrated with examples of work from the great masters.  The next media to be explored will be painting, again using a variety of media such as acrylics and watercolors.  Along with the proper care and use of the materials, students will learn color theory and design elements to create work both from life as well as imagination.  They will paint on different surfaces such as stretched canvas and paper.  If time allows, the art of collage will be introduced as another art process that can incorporate painting and drawing.
The 3D component of this program will focus on sculpture.  A variety of media will be explored. Students will be guided in the additive and subtractive processes in the making of their artwork.  They will work both from life, as well as exploring abstraction and their imaginations.
 Materials included.
