In this week long camp, young artists will study painting and sculpture through Impressionism, a ground-breaking movement in the late 19th century. They will study such masters as Monet, van Gogh, Renoir, and Degas among others, observing the brush strokes, textures, use of color, emphasis on effects of light, subject matter, and more that this movement is known for. Students will explore tonal shading using pencils, charcoal and watercolors, combining these mediums to discover how each artist worked. They will learn how to paint impressionistically and create their own paintings on canvas inspired by this art period. In the afternoon, we will get moving, as we explore theater games, how to create props and backgrounds, and work with other campers to create our own inspired unique performance! Proper care of supplies will be emphasized. No camp on Monday July 5.
