|Week 9: Harlem Renaissance: Collage, Drawing, Painting & Sculpture [Ages 8-12]|

The Harlem Renaissance of the 1920’s and 30’s was a remarkable period of artistic innovation. In this week long camp, explore drawing, painting, printmaking and ceramics through the contributions of a generation of icons. In the morning session study composition and abstraction in acrylic painting through the work of Jacob Lawrence, Charles Alston and Lois Mailou Jones. Learn how they used color to bring life and meaning to their art. In the afternoon session explore figurative ceramic sculpture through the work of Augusta Savage and Richmond Barthé. Throughout the week, students will discuss the political and societal impact of these artists' work.
