Pastel Portrait: One Day Workshop
In this one day workshop explore pastels with long time teaching artist Steve Smith. Using a live model, students will learn how to approach the medium through an understanding of the relationship of color to tonal value. All model fees included.
Materials: A box of vine charcoal, a set of pastels, dark grey toned Canson pastel paper, 17 by 14 inch or 24 by 18 inch, a small traveling French easel, and or a canvas folding chair. 
Recommended: a box of 80 half sticks Sennelier pastels
Materials: Please bring a box of vine charcoal, a set of pastels, dark grey toned Canson pastel paper, 17 by 14 inch or 24 by 18 inch to this workshop. Sennelier pastels recommended by the instructor, but not required. 
About the Instructor: Steve Smith attended the School of Visual Arts where he received his BFA in 1977. He went on to work in NYC theater, film and television, painting scenery for the next thirty years during which he also worked doing illustrations for newspapers and magazines, including Sports Illustrated, and the Philadelphia Inquirer. Steve also did courtroom art for network television. Steve’s caricature sculptures were featured in the Society of Illustrators Annual 3D Show. He has shown extensively in area galleries including The Phillips Mill Annual, The Pastel Society of America annual pastels show at the National Arts Club in NYC, and the Butler Museum annual Pastel Show in Youngstown, OH. Steve’s work is in the permanent collection at the Ellarsie Museum in Trenton, NJ.
