Looking for a collaborative environment to work on and improve your drawing and painting skills? Teaching artist Dressler Smith will provide demos and monitor this 6 week workshop. Come to finish those drawing projects you've always wanted to, and for guidance on next steps. Open to all levels. Demos will include pastel, acrylic and pencil. 
About the Instructor: Dressler Smith is a nationally acclaimed American artist and author whose unique works on paper and stained glass windows designed for churches touch the human spirit. Her artwork is included in the private collections Oprah Winfrey, former NFL quarterback Randall Cunningham, and Coretta Scott King. Dressler has taught visual art at Camden County College for 25 years and currently teaches for the Continuing Education Department at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Join teaching artist Steve Smith on an exploration of drawing this Spring semester. In this 5 week class, we will explore traditional pencil line, ink, charcoal and pastel. Topics such as shape & proportion, value, shading and linear drawing will all be covered, and both landscape and still life will be explored. This class will take place at the Delaware Raritan Greenway off of Rosedale Road in Princeton - please meet us in the parking lot for the first class.  

Materials Needed: 
  • Drawing pencils – Hard & soft, at least a couple of each.   Hard:  H, 2H, 4H, 6H  Soft: B, 6B, 5B, 4B, 3B,   optional:  Ebony pencil
  • Kneaded eraser
  • Soft blending cloth, or blending sticks
  • Charcoal:  compressed or vine charcoal
  • Drawing sketch pad – 11 x 14 or larger
  • Black ink drawing pen (any type)
  • small traveling French easel, and/or a canvas folding chair
About the Instructor: Steve Smith attended the School of Visual Arts where he received his BFA in 1977. He went on to work in NYC theater, film and television, painting scenery for the next thirty years during which he also worked doing illustrations for newspapers and magazines, including Sports Illustrated, and the Philadelphia Inquirer. Steve also did courtroom art for network television. Steve’s caricature sculptures were featured in the Society of Illustrators Annual 3D Show. He has shown extensively in area galleries including The Phillips Mill Annual, The Pastel Society of America annual pastels show at the National Arts Club in NYC, and the Butler Museum annual Pastel Show in Youngstown, OH. Steve’s work is in the permanent collection at the Ellarsie Museum in Trenton, NJ.
